The old historic settlement of Mourtero sits high on a hillside amongst olive groves with panoramic views of the island and Peristera. It can be reached by a 1km dirt road that has received funding and is scheduled to be levelled and asphalted.

This settlement is just a little further up the hill from the popular and lovely little fishing harbour of Kalamakia, with a choice of several good fresh fish tavernas. Steni Vala, a natural picturesque harbour with a selection of excellent tavernas, cafés, shops and supermarkets is just a little further along. Here you can sit and relax watching the many visiting sailing yachts moored up. A short journey down in the opposite direction takes you to Agios Dimitrios, one of the most photographed beaches on Alonissos and the only beach on a peninsula on the island.
